Pi explores the ubiquitous qualities of a circle, a universal symbol for life that travels back beyond time as we know. In this short film, the form explored is that of the atom, and the enormous magnitude of energy that lies within it. The atom makes up matter; matter makes up everything that exists around us. Pi focuses on the tensions of duality — the 'and' of inside/outside; with/without; life/death.
Photographs are treated with a time displacement code made with Processing that diffracts and frays the images. The music is generated with circular expressions to accompany the motion of the atom. Film and animation by Jamie Tan and sound by Dalamig.
